Goat Milk Soap vs. Vegan Soap: Which One is right For You?
If you are reading this blog, then you already know about the dangers of using Big Box Store soap bars, liquid hand soaps, and shower gels.
Most soap bars, body washes, shampoos, conditioners, lotions, lip balms even when claiming to be natural contain harmful and even harsh ingredients that can penetrate the skin with every use of these products.
In determining which Handmade soap is the best choice for you and your family there can be much to consider.
So let us dive right into this journey of natural Handmade Soap bars, shall we?
There are two kinds of Handmade soaps: those that are Vegan that contain no animal derived ingredient, and those that do like Goat's Milk and Tallow soap bars.
First Let's Talk about Animal Derived Soaps:
The Animal derived ingredient in Goat's Milk soap is the milk from a dairy goat.
The animal derived ingredient in the Tallow soap is the the fat that is rendered from cattle, bison, or sheep.
Tallow is a healthy fat that when added to the oil phase of soap making can add omega-3 fatty acids, thus helping to create a very moisturizing bar.
Goat's Milk resembles that of human milk (with a similar pH value) and when it is added to the liquid phase of soap making creates the most gentle and mild soap bar with a lower pH than most handmade soaps. This pH being between 5.5 - 6.5 results in a very gentle soap bar with a lower pH than that of water based handmade soaps. The Alpha-Hydroxy acids naturally found in Goats's milk helps to remove dead dry skin resulting in radiant skin that is soft and renewed. And yet another luxurious benefit of a milk soap is that the milk is naturally rich in vitamins and minerals.
And choosing the most beneficial Oils that will be used in making handmade soaps can greatly help to make the resulting handmade soap superior to others.
Tierra Mia Organics has focused on Milk soaps from the beginning because we know of the countless benefits that milk adds to natural handmade soaps.
Now Let's Dive into Vegan Derived Soaps
Vegan soaps can be made with several different elements such as purified water, aloe, and coconut milk, to name a few. Soaps made with water can not add any benefits to the soap making process because water does not contain the vitamins and minerals found in milk soaps and thus leaving the oils used in the process to be responsible for the benefits. Phew! What pressure these oils have on them!
After much research, we found Oat Milk much like Goat's Milk to be rich in the same vitamins and minerals along with it's anti-inflammatory and hydrating properties, and that lower the pH of the soap to a healthy range for the skin.
And oats have long since been known to help soothe the skin when used in baths to calm skin allergies and dry itchy skin.
All this makes Milk soaps the best choice for dry sensitive itchy skin.
Here at Tierra Mia Organics we have been producing Goat's Milk soaps and Body products since 2010 and we added our Oat's Milk product line in the beginning of 2023 because...
#1. We care very much for the health of our small herd of dairy goats and we do not want to exploit them by making them work day in and day out every year to produce milk for us.
#2. We were blessed to learn that Oat Milk, being rich in the same vitamins and minerals, is the perfect substitute that matches the many benefits found in our Goat's Milk.
#3. Lastly, because many of our customers have over the years shared with us that after being advised to use Aveeno they found no relief to their dry skin conditions. This is because unlike commercial brands of Oat soaps and lotion, our products are made with few ingredients that contain real oils and real organic oat milk with no petroleum, no sodium chloride, no silicone polymers, and other ingredients one can't pronounce and bring absolutely no benefits to the skin.
Our Oat Milk Soaps and Lotions contain Organic Oat Milk ( made by us using Organic Oats and purified water) and we instantly add this milk into our products, whether it is our Oat Milk soaps or our Oat Milk Lotions and Body products.
To ensure the quality of our Goat's Milk Products, and our Oat Milk Products, we use milks that are produced onsite by us. This assures that the milk in these products is consistent and of the utmost quality. Our soaps do not expire, they age like fine wine.
We choose to make milk soaps because of the rich nutrients and benefits they bring to the skin. A false myth is that milk soaps go bad or even smell bad and that assumption is only made out of ignorance about the science of the soap making process. This misunderstanding is brought about because the soap maker does not know how to keep the milk from "cooking" when making these soaps thus losing all of the benefits that the milk brings to the product.
We use a process that keeps our milk from losing any of the vitamins and minerals they naturally contain.
For over a decade of making these soaps, our wonderful and loyal customers absolutely love our soaps and have continued ordering them!
Here's 3 Fun Facts:
Fun Fact # 1
Our soap bars contain: 1/3 milk and 2/3 natural healthy oils = luxurious soap!
Fun Fact # 2:
Our soaps do not contain: ingredients that one cannot pronounce.
Only these oils:
Olive oil
Coconut oil
Cocoa Butter
Castor oil
and essential oil
Fun fact # 3
Soaps made with just water or aloe( a powdered aloe with added water) contain no vitamins and minerals, but only the benefits of the oils contained in these soaps so.......
Other handmade soap bars contain: about 1/3 water and 2/3 oils.
All in all, handmade soaps are leaps and bounds above commercially made soaps like Dove, Irish Springs, lever 2000, and so on and so on...
So, to answer our original question, which soap is right for you?
Milk Soaps are the best choice! Because of the rich nutrients the milk brings to the table!
Oat Milk soaps for the gentle calm and soothing benefits that Oats contain that will bring great relief to super sensitive skin, baby skin, allergy skin, eczema, psoriasis, and just every skin will benefit.
Goat's Milk soaps for the alpha-hydroxy gentle exfoliating benefits that is found naturally in this milk makes it help bring the skin to a more normal pH level, this being what is missing in skin conditions such as eczema and psoriasis.
In our humble opinion Truly the choice is yours!
